Call for 2010 LASERVIC Awards

2010 LASERVIC Awards

It’s that time again – time to recognize those counselors around us who are doing good work. LASERVIC will recognize two of its members at the LCA conference during the LASERVIC luncheon. The awards are:
Humane and Caring Person
Distinguished Professional Service

Simply take a moment to think about a LASERVIC member, briefly note why they should be nominated, and send to Mary Ellen Stegall at maryesteg@aol.com by Sept. 1, 2010.
Just a small amount of time to celebrate those helping others.

  1. I first joined LASERVIC in 2005 when my internship supervisor, Devonne Reese, encouraged me to attend a board meeting. I was instantly drawn to the strong sense of community that the members shared, even though they saw each other only a few times a year. I liked what they stood for, and I felt that we shared similar values and perspectives. I began as a graduate school representative, then awards chair, then secretary, now president. I feel blessed to serve with several of my mentors from graduate school (Dr. Ceasar, Dr. Hay, Dr. Miranti, Dr. Austin, Dr. White)

  2. I graduated with a BA in Sociology from UNO and received my MA in Marriage and Family counseling with an ancillary certification in school counseling from Our Lady of Holy Cross College.

  3. I am an only child and thus very interested in the works of Alfred Adler.

  4. I am a school counselor at Mount Carmel Academy and have been there for four years. I love waking up and going to work every day.

  5. I was born in New Orleans and was raised in Metairie, where I currently reside.

  6. I am an INFP.

  7. I have several Mormon relatives in Utah.

  8. The best CD that I have bought in years is "Gigi: Guramayle." Gigi is a contemporary Ethiopian singer.

  9. I am a die-hard LSU and Saints fan.

  10. The best concert that I have attended was the Dave Matthews band at the Gorge in Washington state.

  11. The modern day spiritual teacher I most admire is Eckhart Tolle.

  12. My favorite place in New Orleans to clear my head is City Park.

  13. I still have three grandparents.

  14. My high school guidance counselor was a strong influence on my career decision. She also happens to be a LASERVIC member, and former president: Beverly Nugent, LPC, LMFT.

  15. My favorite quote is "Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person; having neither to weigh thoughts, nor to measure words but to pour them all out, just as it is, chaff and grain together, knowing that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keeping what is worth keeping, and then, with the breath of kindness, blow the rest away." Ann Curry

  16. My favorite movie of all time is Pretty Woman, and my favorite movie in recent years is The Visitor.

  17. My mom is an LCSW.

  18. My favorite cuisine is Thai.

  19. I took ballet for 13 years.

  20. My favorite class in graduate school was "Social Ecology."

  21. My favorite book is Happiness Sold Separately by Lolly Winston.

  22. My favorite trip was to Hawaii, when I went there for ACA in 2007.

  23. The one TV show I can’t miss is Last Comic Standing.

  24. My favorite talk radio show is the Dr. Laura Berman show.

  25. My favorite thing to do for exercise is Pilates.
